A Dragon Story in The Friend

This story, Rajinder’s Dragons by Vicki Blum,  caught my eye because I have always loved dragons in story and art, fantasy though they may be.  The subtitle for the story is the scripture “Ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints (Eph. 2:19).”

Maybe you think this is not the kind of story that you would expect in a Church magazine, but it ties into the Book of Mormon, believe it or not. I will not give away anymore. Read it for yourself. Tell me what you think.

Fantasy literature has always been a great love of mine, beginning with the fairy tales of childhood. I agree wholeheartedly with the move towards more true stories and scripture stories in the Church magazines and curriculum. Wholesome fantasy stories are the spice of my life, though. One of my favorite authors of juvenile literature is Dianne Wynne Jones who does an incredible job of melding dull, daily existence with the wonder that can be running just below the surface.
