Viewing and Printing Pictures that Must Be Saved First

Click on the following picture to view a 4-minute video that explains how to print a picture that does NOT say "Click to View Larger Format":

Some pictures do NOT say "Click to View Larger Format" on the LDS.org website. To print these pictures I need to right-click my mouse, select "save picture as" and save the picture to my hard drive first. For some strange reason with my browser, right clicking and going to Print Picture is not working correctly, only printing a tiny version of the coloring page, even when I change the preferences/page set-up to printing type "fit to page." I need to go to Microsoft Paint and change the page set-up through there before printing within the Paint program. I am using Internet Explorer 7, if that makes any difference.

Viewing and Printing PDF Friend Coloring Pages The Quick Way

  1. Make a mental note of the month and page number you want to see, and click the link for the right PDF year of the Friend magazine.  You will be taken to the lds.org website.
  2. Assuming you already have Adobe Reader installed, you can click on the month you desire.
  3. When the PDF file is fully displayed in your reader, you can go to the bottom of your screen to the page number box. It will say something like 0-1 (1 of 48), to represent the cover of a 48 page issue of the magazine. Highlight those numbers with your cursor.
  4. Type the page number you desire. Press enter. This will delete the old page number, and enter a new page number, and it is is the quickest way to bring up the page you want to see.
  5.  If printing directly from Adobe Reader, take care after selecting print that you enter the page number or select current page when the print box comes up. I cannot tell you how many times I started to print the entire magazine.
  6. If the pictures are not quite suitable “as is” you can edit them (make them bigger, crop, or remove text, for instance). In Adobe Reader, click on the Snapshot Tool icon that looks like a little camera.
  7. Click on the page where you want to begin selecting and hold down while you drag your cursor, forming a box that will be copied to your clipboard when you release.
  8. You may have another graphics or photo editing program you like to use, but from there I usually go to Microsoft Paint (in Windows, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint) and select edit and paste. Then I can crop it. Click on the dotted rectangular select icon, then click on the page where you want to begin selecting and hold down while your drag your cursor forming a box, release, then click edit and copy. Select file and new to start a new Paint file. (You cannot have two files open at the same time.) Click edit and paste, and there you will have your cropped picture. Make it print to a full page by choosing page set-up and fit to a 1 by 1 page.

Viewing and Printing HTML Friend Coloring Pages The Quick Way

  1. Click the link for the coloring page you want to see. You will be taken directly to the lds.org website.
  2. Scroll down until you see a small, sketchy-looking picture that appears to be what you are looking for. This is a preview picture. It will say "click to view larger format" and sometimes have a credit for the illustrator.
  3. Click on the preview picture itself. It will open a new window with a clear, large coloring page.
  4. Click print on the top right side, and when your print window opens you can choose preferences > page set-up > printing type > print to full page, if your computer has those options.
  5. If the pictures are not quite suitable “as is” you can edit them (make them bigger, crop, or remove text, for instance). Let your cursor rest on the picture, right-click and select copy.
  6. See step 8 above for instructions on working with Microsoft Paint to crop and print your picture to full size. You may prefer working with your own graphics program. If you need to save the picture to your own computer before working with it, let your cursor rest on the picture and right-click and select "save picture as..."
